Life and Soul of the Party

Christopher attended his first birthday party on Saturday and was the very life and soul of the party, the complete center of attention. Ok, that was until he passed out, um, fell asleep. He is taking after his Aunty Alex and had a 'little sleep' in the middle of a party.

Unfortunately he wasn't able to eat the yummy sweets in his pack, but Jenny made the sacrifice and ate them so that he could experience them second hand. The sacrifices she makes just brings a tear to my eye!

He is also starting to enjoy spending a lot more time in his play gym and I think the that all the soccer (no, it is not football!) is having a positive effect on him. He is really starting to take an interest in soccer, you can see in the picture on the left that he has almost mastered the bicycle kick. He mastered dribbling a long time ago so his soccer skills are growing rapidly.

We can also see that he is growing as he is now into the next size of nappies, if only just. Which is just as well, he has explosive episodes. Nothing for a couple of days, all quiet on the western front and then suddenly the artillery lets rip with a wet farting sound and you just know that it is BAD. Not the kind of thing that you can handle on your own, it is two person, four hands, half a role of toilet paper and 16 wet wipes operation. All the while he sits there gurgling and cooing to himself, well pleased and very proud of his achievement. If I wasn't so scared of them I would keep some of those nappies for a couple of years and when he brings home his first girlfriend see how proud he is of them then!

The college fund is sitting at a staggering $19.96! Please feel free to leave comments we always enjoy hearing from you if you are a friend, family, stranger or even all three.

Christopher takes to the bottle...

So the stress of babyhood has got too much for Christopher and he is starting to hit the bottle. Not a pretty site, he knocks back those bottles like his life depends on it and then it is a quick belch and he passes out. We think we may need to take him to AA. I blame it all on Josie. When a woman sticks a bottle in your mouth and says drink, how many men are going to say "No"? Yet another man driven to drink by a woman.

The downside of the bottle feeding is that now I can start to do some of the feeds, although Jenny has been very kind and not made me do any of the night feeds. It does mean we now have a degree of freedom and can go out and if he starts getting hungry we can feed him anywhere.

On more mundane issues, we have decided to replace the lounge carpet and get under-carpet heating fitted. I'm not sure of the logic of it though, in the middle of an electricity crisis in Cape Town we are getting electric under-carpet heating fitted. Well, I never claimed to be normal/sane/rational/intelligent!

Christopher is also starting to sleep better at night. We are getting close to dropping a feed. He tends to sleep from about 6:30pm until after 12:00. Last night he slept until after 1:00am. We are ever hopeful of getting him to sleep from 6 to 6, but I guess that could be a while off.

He is also now getting big enough to start wearing a lot of those 'agh-cute' outfits which so many of our friends have bought for us. So I will try to post as many pictures of them as possible.

Christopher's College fund is now sitting at $18.90.

A day at work

Jenny wanted to take some time off so I took Christopher to work with me. I don't know if to was 'take your child to work day' but I thought it was time he started to get familiar with the work environment and the rigours of working for living. However, the first thing he did was fall asleep, I think he has huge potential as a government employee.

Ok, for those of you who don't know I am working from home and this was Jenny's way of telling me that it was time to come out of my hole and be sociable.

Jenny and Christopher had their 6 week check up on Wednesday and both are doing very well. Jenny has returned to her pre-pregnancy weight already. The breast feeding is certainly having an effect, you just have to see the amount of food and chocolate she is eating. Apparently breast feeding uses the same number of calories in a day as running 5km. This is natures very own lypo-suction. I'm surprised more woman aren't getting pregnant to lose weight.

Christopher is now at 5.82kg and starting to be a lot more alert. He is starting to spend a lot more time in his play gym, maybe I need to follow suit. Although everytime I get in Jenny tells me to get out as I'm too big for it, guess I'll just have to go to the gym down the road.

As I mentioned previously the money generated from the Google ads at the top of the page is going to be used for Christopher's college fund. Everytime someone clicks on one of the ads he earns a little bit towards a brighter future. So far his college fund is sitting on $17.74. So far his future is not so bright, which is just as well as he can't afford the shades!

Christening

So I have been berated from left, right and center for not updating the blog more often. Somewhat daunting as I did not think anyone was really reading this, after looking back it has been nearly a month since the last post, so I guess I had better try post more regularly.

Sunday we had Christoper christened. Belinda and Sean were asked to be god parents, and while Belinda will be a spiritual guide for Christopher, I think Sean will be more of a guide to spirits, particularly the single malts.

During the christening the deacon blessed Jenny and then he blessed me, as soon as he started blessing me, Christopher started crying. Well, crying is an understatement, it was a full blooded wail. Was he trying to tell me something?

Otherwise, Christopher was very well behaved and only had a brief little cry when he had water ceremoniously dumped on his head.

Afterwards we had a couple of drinks (ok, more than a couple) and snacks at Kate's to celebrate. All told a fairly good way to spend a Sunday, even taking into account that I had to go to church!

I will try to be more diligent in posting some new pictures in the days to come.
